Causes and Effects of Climate Change and Global Warming

by Kaye L. Bitoonan

Climate change is a phenomenon that happens in a long period of time. Because of this, a lot of changes have happened in the world. Alongside with this is what we called the global warming. As we all know, global warming is the continuing rise or increase of temperature that causes the world to experience abnormal temperature. Both of them aren’t new to us and investigating their origin and possible impacts is important for us to find how devastating and dangerous these can be.

CLIMATE CHANGE

First is the climate change. It is a variation in the pattern of climate properties such as temperature, wind, and precipitation over a long period. In short, we will be experiencing abnormal climate that will probably last for a long time.
As the time passes by, the question left unanswered began to unfold giving the emphasis about the reason behind this phenomenon. Publishing climate scientists overwhelmingly agree that climate change is the result of human activity. Human activities are currently generating an excess of long-lived greenhouse gasses that don’t dissipate in response to the increase of temperature resulting in a continuing buildup of heat.
These greenhouse gasses are carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrouse oxide. After determining its cause, we’d go down with the effects and what are these? Climate change range from more frequent and severe droughts to snowstorms and extreme winter weather in temperate regions as a result of warming Arctic weather fronts. Its effect to the ocean is the increase in frequency of coral reef bleaching. Drier Weather also means wildfires to the forests and less hospitable to the animals.

GLOBAL WARMING

Capture    Next is the global warming. It is the accumulation of greenhouse gasses that allows more solar heat to be trapped, resulting in the warming of the earth’s atmosphere. Its causes are mostly from the gasses such as carbon dioxide from forest activities as well as machines and motors that use coal and natural gas, methane from agricultural activities, nitrous oxide from intensive agriculture and animal waste handling, chlorofluorocarbons from individual processes, and ozone from automobile exhaust fumes.

Due to these, possible effects that can be expected is the ozone layer depletion that would lead to experience warmer climate. It can lead to tardiness of the environment that would affect the health of the people. Also water supply will be affected when saltwater intrusion occurs due to the rising sea-levels. Lastly, higher incidence of vector-borne diseases, such as malaria and dengue, is expected during warmer seasons respectively.

Thus, those are the causes and effects of the climate change and global warming. Therefore, as a human being, we should not waste such beautiful environment for our own’s likeness. We should address this issue and start making a change in order to lessen the problems that we and the environment are encountering.

Climate Change in Relation to Global Warming

by: Radnie Vincent O. Dagohoy

Some people think that climate change and global warming are the same thing but the reality are two different things. Both of the terms are used frequently in scientific literature. They are not exactly the same but are closely related. One way to look at it is Global warming causes climates to change, so it’s more like a cause and effect type of thing.

In this infographic, it can be seen on how Global Warming affects our earth through Climate Change

As defined, Global warming is the gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increasing levels of carbon dioxide. Thus, Global warming and Climate change are linked to the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, which then changes the climate by creating greenhouse that’s described as global warming. As shown in the graph above climate change and global warming are raising around the same time (1985) and are increasing in about the same rate.

Why does this matter?

This is important because around the world seasons are shifting, temperatures are climbing and sea levels are rising. As of now our planet is supplying us with everything we need including air, water, food and shelter but if we don’t act our kids and grand-kids won’t have the same resources as we did. Other things that would happen included, landscaping would change, wildlife would be at risk, increasing the strength and damage of storms, more heat related illness.
